WPJA Black Diamond Pre-Wedding | Engagement Photo Awards!

Valerie Rosen Photography is pleased to announce that five (5) photos have been selected by the Wedding Photojournalists Association (WPJA) for Black Diamond Awards for Pre-Wedding | Engagement photography in the latest round of awards! Each of these award-winning photos was taken during a casual engagement session that followed their surprise proposal in Montreal and surrounding areas! The only thing better than having the honour of documenting a surprise marriage proposal, is getting to capture all that “just engaged” love and joy that follows!

Enjoy a bit of engagement session storytelling for each of the photos. Thanks for reading! ♡

PHOTOS #1 & #2: By the time Nathaniel had successfully proposed to Robyn on the picturesque front steps of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in downtown Montreal, a solid drizzle was falling from an increasingly darkening sky. From this adorable engagement session moment on the side of the museum, and all that “just engaged” joy, you’d never know the weather was any issue at all! They were such good sports!

So, I was all the more thrilled to discover that both of these photos had received Black Diamond Engagement Award recognition!

PHOTO #3: Knowing Oishi would want to be dressed up in her engagement photos, Pranav gifted her this beautiful dress by Reformation on their nostalgic weekend in Old Montreal, and planned for them to go for a stroll by the water accompanied by a friend of theirs. His surprise proposal at the base of the historic Clock Tower was so sweet and exciting to document from a distance.

This heartwarming smiley hug on a quiet street corner at the easternmost end of Rue Saint-Paul happened as their super fun engagement session was coming to a close.

PHOTO #4: Lauren & Luke drove up from the States with their 10 mth old mini burma doodle, Nori, and decided to make a picnic in Westmount Park, in Westmount, QC. Luke hired me just the day before to document his surprise picnic proposal, opting to take advantage of my details add-on service of champagne and this beautiful bouquet from Westmount Florist, both of which I picked up en route to the proposal.

It was a must to include Nori at the start of their engagement session, before they dropped him off in the car to continue their beautiful couple session in the park. Love love love including pets in couple sessions. It’s no surprise that this photo was selected for an award! I mean look at that puppy connection!

PHOTO #5: Vincent contacted me a few months in advance of his surprise proposal to Jojo in their Airbnb at the base of Mont Bromont, because he wanted everything to go to perfection! He was really great to plan and plot with, and added on a whole list of details for me to set up, including a stunning bespoke bouquet by the talented Asher Fleurs. Following their sweet proposal, we began their engagement session inside, then moved outside to play in the snow.

This gorgeous portrait is a perfect testament of their 7 years together. Pleased to see this one received an award, as well.

Thankful to each of these couples for trusting me with documenting such a precious moment in their love stories, and humbled by the recognition from WPJA for my photography!
